Actress Beverly Salviejo lambasted CHR: "Criminals have more human rights than farmers?"

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR), under the chairmanship of Chito Gascon is recently being scrutinized for its inefficiency and blatant anti-administration tendencies. The issue sprang up after the House of Representatives expressed their lack of trust and confidence on the Commission-so true that they even granted the CHR a budget appropriation worth P1,000 for 2018.

While the controversy sounded negatively and reprehensive to some, especially among human rights advocates and anti-drug war propagandists, some supporters of the administration expressed their allegiance and support to the decision of the Congress.

One of them who is supportive of the decision of the HoR was actress, comedian, and media personality Beverly Salviejo. In her personal Facebook account, Salviejo expressed through a Facebook status her frustration over the lame and prejudiced accomplishments of the Commission through the years, especially under the presidency of Duterte’s predecessor, Benigno Aquino III.

“EXCUSE ME! But the CHR HAD BEEN BIASED ALL ALONG...." Salviejo initially claimed in her post.

Inclusive in Salviejo’s post was the enumeration of several past accounts and instances that show or exemplifies the considerable silence and lack of concern from the Commission regarding several human rights violation and offenses committed under the Aquino administration. Pointing out the misery faced by our local farmers whose rights have obviously been violated under the leadership of Gascon as the CHR chairman and Aquino as then head of state, Salviejo wrote boldly and fervently:

“IN THE PAST, THEY (referring to the CHR) DID NOT SQUEAK A BIT WHEN THE FARMERS ( i repeat, farmers) WERE MASSACRED IN THE RALLY AT MENDIOLA BY THE CORY ADMINISTRATION ....

THEY DID NOT PROTEST WHEN THE FARMERS (again, farmers), WERE KILLED AND MASSACRED IN HACIENDA LUISITA....

THEY DID NOT SHOUT AND RAISE THEIR VOICES WHEN IN KIDAPAWAN, THE HUNGRY FARMERS (yes, farmers again) MARCHED TO DEMAND FOR RICE BUT WERE MET WITH GUNFIRE WITH SOME KILLED, and WOMEN AND THE ELDERLY JAILED...

ALL THESE DURING THE PAST AQUINO ADMINISTRATIONS...

BUT NOW DURING PRRD's WATCH, THEY HOWL AND PROTEST WHEN CRIMINALS ARE KILLED IN POLICE OPERATIONS!!!!

CRIMINALS HAVE MORE HUMAN RIGHTS THAN FARMERS???!!!!” Salviejo concluded her post.
