Air Asia owner commends President Duterte: 'A real man of the people'

Tony Fernandes, the owner and proprietor of Air Asia, one of the major airline companies in the country, recently published a post in his official Facebook page a complimentary post where he expressed his positive regards and comments about President Rodrigo Duterte.

In the said post, Fernandes narrated a particular encounter he and his helper (named Annie) had with the president where he described Duterte as a humble and warm person-a kind of description that is far different from how anti-Duterte critics locally and abroad describe the president. Fernandes, still in his post, also emphasized that President Duterte is a “real man of the people”.

    Fernandes’ post reads:

“Annie my Filipino helper has been with me for 25 years. Practically family. She is a huge fan of President Duterte. Her father's dream was to meet any president of his country. He sadly never made it but I got Annie to meet her leader. There has been lots of press about President Duterte but I found him warm and down to earth. He went out of his way to take pictures with Annie and I could see he cared for her. A real man of the people.”

Meanwhile, Krizette Laureta Chu, a distinguished writer and pro-Duterte critic, acknowledged the sincerity and appreciation the Air Asia owner had expressed towards the President. Touched by the warm remarks of Fernandes about Duterte, Chu shared his post and claimed that Fernandes’ positive commendation can significantly influence and positively affect the perception of people about President Duterte.

“[I would like to] Thank him [referring to Fernandes] for saying good things about our President. When everyone abroad's trying to paint Duterte as evil, we must be grateful for powerful men like Tony, who help change the perception of our President," Chu wrote.
