LOOK: Senator Gordon called Bato and Aguirre ‘cowards’

Superintendent Marvin Marcos, a controversial cop that was suspected to be culprit behind the assassination of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., had previously been reinstated and appointed as head of the CIDG or Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Soccsksargen.

Triggered by the said phenomenon, Senator Richard Gordon had criticized the cabinet members of the President specifically PNP Chief Bato dela Rosa and Justice Secretary VItaliano Aguirre, by describing them as ‘cowards’ for failing to advise the president not to favor the reinstatement of the Marcos.

“I’m sorry, Mr. President but I will tell you the truth...There are cowards around the President who don’t want to say the truth,” said Gordon in an interview with the reporters.

“People around him should pay him a lot more respect by telling him the truth. And I think the President is man enough to say ‘okay may problema tayo dyan’,” Gordon added.

Prior to Marcos’ appointment, President Rodrigo Duterte had also announced his intention to reinstate the police officer albeit the criminal or homicide charges filed against him.

It can be recalled that only last month, Marcos together with his men had been released from detention. This came after criminal charges for murder which were filed against them had been reduced to homicide which is a bailable offense.

With the Department of Justice (DOJ) being the one who downgraded Marcos et al.’s charges, Gordon scrutinized DOJ Secretary Aguirre claiming the Aguirre is to blame for allowing such thing to happen.

“Dapat hindi pinakialaman yan. Kung talagang marunong yan si Aguirre, hinayaan niya na lang yung husgado. Bakit papabayaan ang Presidente? Siya ang nagsimula niyan eh, binaba nila yung [kaso]. Naghugas kamay pa siya nung simula eh command responsibility yan,” the senator asserted.

“May kahinaan talaga ng ulo yung mga nakapaligid sa kanya eh,” Gordon also said speculatively.

Gordon then maneuvered to the PNP, particularly to its Chief Bato dela Rosa, who according to Gordon reinforced Duterte’s intention to appoint Marcos instead of advising the President not to do so.

“Ang hirap sa PNP, hindi nila ina-advisean ang Presidente. Dapat deretsa sabihin makakasama sa police force yan. That is also the duty of the people around the President,” Gordon said.

Senator Leila de Lima, albeit her current detention due to some charges filed against her, also commented on the issue.

“International law doctrine and jurisprudence consider these actions [referring to Duterte reinstating Marcos for certain police duties] as clear indicators of ‘fraudulent administration of justice’,” De Lima who is the former Justice Secretary, claimed.
