Duterte to arrest Maute group protectors and financiers

“They will all be arrested, whether politicians or not."

That was one of the remarks President Rodrigo Duterte stated during his speech last June 3, Saturday night in Cagayan de Oro City.

In that particular statement, Duterte was referring to certain drug personalities who provide funds and protection to the Maute terror group claiming that in the upcoming days, all of them shall be arrested.

“In the days ahead we will arrest all of them. Number one ‘yung nag-produce ng shabu, nagbigay ng pera sa terrorista, they will all be arrested,” stated President Rodrigo Duterte.

The President also stated that he and the PNP ought to detain all drug-related personalities especially those who are affiliated to the Maute group. Duterte further claimed that once proven guilty, he deems to detain the convicted crooks “forever”.

“We will charge you accordingly. We will detain you more than ‘yung six days-six days. There will be at once an inquest and if there is a probable cause, I would like them to be detained forever,” Duterte said.

Although Duterte did not mention any names during his talk, he said that Marawi City is a den for several drug personalities, who secretly sustain more than 200 members of the Maute group.

“Marami  ‘yan dito sa Marawi, kalakasan. Kaya nga ang supply ng shabu dito sa Cagayan hindi maubos-ubos eh,” Duterte added.

It can be recalled that during a press conference last Monday, PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa claimed that there is a “symbiosis” between narco-politicians and drug lords in a sense that both are believed to be protecting each other.

According to an online article published by GMA news, Dela Rosa prior to his appointment as the PNP Director General, had received information about the occurence of the so-called “drug summit” among drug lords and narcopoliticians all throughout the Philippines and the Maute group.

Conclusively, dela Rosa has affirmed that he and the PNP will “take advantage of Duterte’s declaration of martial law in Mindanao” as a means to efficiently address Mindanao’s inevitable issues or problems concerning narcopolitics.
