Political Analyst: "Robredo misdeclared assets in SALN, leaving out Meralco stocks of 6M "

De La Salle University professor of Political Science Antonio Contreras on his Facebook page accused Vice President Leni Robredo of misdeclaring her assets in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth, leaving out Meralco stocks that are worth over six million pesos.

"ROBREDO MISDECLARED HER ASSETS IN HER SALN. SHE DID NOT DECLARE VALUE OF MERALCO STOCKS THAT COULD BE WORTH AT LEAST 6.46 MILLION PESOS!"

Contreras brought into the topic Robredo's radio interview with reporter Mike Enriquez in 2009 where she admitted that she had stocks at Meralco which had a value of 95 thousand in 1995.

The value of stocks was not declared in her SALN.

Contreras, one of the forces behind the impeachment case against Robredo,  said that he did some crowd-sourcing and computed the value of these stocks.

"I could not get the share prices of Meralco stocks in 1995. What I got thanks to Carlos A Jr Cortes is the value in 2000 which is 4 pesos per share," he said.

"Using this, and this is even conservative since the price in 1995 must have been lower than 4 pesos, then Robredo owned at least 23,750 shares of stocks (95k divided by 4)," he added.

Contreras concluded that with the current share price of 227 pesos per share, Robredo would have at least 6.46 milion pesos (at least 23,750 shares multiplied by 272 pesos per share) of assets which she failed to declare in her SALN.

"Using the Corona precedent, this is an impeachable offense," he said.

Chief Justice Renato Corona was impeached by the order of President Benigno Aquino III due to discrepancies in his SALN.

"And this does not even include the fact that she did not divest from Meralco, in violation of Article VII, Section 13 of the 1987 Constitution," Contreras added.

Robredo has declared her total net worth at eight million in her SALN.
