Netizens slams Bam Aquino's logic on Duterte's refusal on EU aid, says Bam is 'Pro-begging, anti-anything Duterte'

Philippines, being self-sufficient does not necessarily mean that it no longer needs to collect taxes from the Filipino citizens. This was the major argument laid by Mr. Bryan Ng Co in his Facebook post yesterday regarding Bam Aquino's illogicality on the issue of President Duterte's refusal to receive aids from the European Union.

"Self-sufficiency does not in any way imply taxation-free," said Ng Co.

He also cited that even USA and Japan which are two developed countries regarded as self-sufficient both impose taxes on their respective citizens.

It can be recalled that last Thursday, a huge issue sprang up regarding Duterte's alleged refusal to receive aids from the European Union. Some prominent political personalities expressed their sentiments on the issue, including Senator Bam Aquino.

On Twitter, Sen. Aquino stated: "If we are refusing aid bec. we are self-sufficient, why are we then planning to burden our countrymen w/ more taxes?"

Turning Bam Aquino's logic head on, Ng Co emphasized:

"WHY DID THE RP GOVERNMENT (in the first place) COLLECT TAXES FROM ITS CITIZENS WHEN IT WAS RECEIVING AIDS AND GRANTS FROM THE EUROPEAN UNION?"

Ng Co further explained that "tax collection is not a token of insufficiency or inadequacy. Nor should taxation and aid be considered mutually exclusive."

Ng Co’s argument also included some personal attacks on Bam Aquino's so-called attempt to "look like Ninoy".

"You try to look like Ninoy, but man, Bam, you're no Ninoy." Ng Co said.

Netizen Francis Ibanez also commented that, “You (referring to Bam) can cosplay as Ninoy everyday but you still dont even have a quarter of his brain."

Meanwhile, Malacañang had clarified that Duterte did not mean to totally refuse aid from the EU. As a matter of fact, according to Presidential Spokesperson, Ernesto Abella, Duterte was only rejecting certain conditions of the aid that seem to interfere with Philippines' internal affairs.

The particular issue which happened to just be a mere misunderstanding, yielded Bam Aquino a lot of negative criticisms and personal attacks from the netizens.

Assuming Aquino will run for the presidency on 2022, award-winning essayist Erik Clark Su on his Facebook post also hits Aquino saying that the current senator's platform would be "Pro-begging, anti-tax reform, USA dick-sucking, (and) anti-anything Duterte".
