LOOK: Robredo borrows millions from kin for electoral counter-protest

Vice President Leni Robredo has borrowed money from relatives of her late husband in order to comply with the requirements given by the Presidential Electoral Tribunal for her counter protest to the electoral recount case filed by Senator Bongbong Marcos.

Robredo paid the initial amount of the P15.44 million required by PET on Tuesday.

Barry Gutierrez, Robredo's legal adviser said that she got the deposit partly from her funds and the rest were from the relatives of the late Jesse Robredo, namely Vicente Hao Chin, Pablito Chua and Rafael Bondoc.

He said that while Robredo may not be as rich as her opponent, she will follow the rules of the PET.

“Hindi gaya ng aming kalaban, wala pong ganoong kalaking pera si VP Leni ngunit handa siyang magkabaon-baon sa utang, mapigil lang ang tangkang nakawin ang puwesto na ipinagkatiwala sa kanya ng taumbayan,” he said.

Marcos has paid his part which amounted to 36 million pesos on the 17th of April.

The former senator is required to pass 66 million pesos for his counter protest. He filed the protest questioning the integrity and reliability of the Vote Counting Machines, Consolidating Canvass System units, secure digital cards and other storage devices used for the clustered precincts during the May local and national elections last year.

Robredo said that Marcos' protest only showed that he and his family want to return to power and that she will fight the battle as well.
