De Lima defends Callamard from Locsin: She is not connected with ICC

After ranting about the visit of United Nations Special Raporteur on summary executions in the country, Teodoro Locson Jr. became the subject of the criticisms of detained Senator Leila de Lima.

Locsin through his Twitter account claimed that Callamard's visit to the Philippines last week makes the complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte in the International Criminal Court "dead as a door nail".

Locsin did not give an explanation to the statement.

De Lima then responded that she thinks the UN ambassador had confused Callamard as an ICC prosecutor.

“I cannot believe how the intelligently outspoken Teddyboy Locsin can claim the ICC case against his President because of Agnes Callamard’s visit, an unofficial one at that, to the Philippines,” she said in a statement.

De Lima clarified that it is an ICC Judge who will look into the complaint filed by lawyer Jude Sabio against the President on grounds of him being a mass murderer.

The preliminary examination is to be carried out by ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and not Callamard.

“Callamard has nothing to do with the ICC case and has her own independent mandate as the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions,” she said.

Locsin has tweeted several statements slamming the UN official.

"To say she informed PH govt acknowledges that it has a say in her trip & how it affects her role as UN Rapporteur. She came anyway. Bye." one tweet read.

In a separate tweet he said, "Agnes Callamard did in one day what Jose Rizal used his whole life including his death to pull off: give Filipinos a sense of their country."
