VP Leni's latest speech on violence and peace just exposes her shallowness and her lack of understanding of what's going on in the nation right now. Sure, one can achieve peace without violence and that's the purpose of the the very essential function of diplomacy: negotiations.
But there are times when force is needed in order to restore order, which is the necessary condition for peace to flourish. Without order, there can never be peace.
Certainly, if you have a conflict with your friends, you can't restore your relationship through violence. The affairs of the State isn't like the affairs between two friends. Drug syndicates and the full machinery of narcopolitics are NOT our friends. You cannot treat these folks with a kid glove.
Perhaps VP Leni has forgotten that one of the tools of statecraft is FORCE. It is a tool as legitimate as diplomacy. So instead of telling students through a blanket statement that violence cannot restore peace, she should discuss with them when can violence be legitimately used to restore peace and order.
Those who don't know when violence can be legitimately be used would be careless and dangerous in using violence when the time calls for it. It's like the difference between someone trained how to fire a gun and someone who is just firing a gun for the first time because she thought that guns are evil. VP Leni is forming that kind of person.

and the best at hate are those who preach love
and the best at war finally are those who preach peace" - Charles Bukowski
