Leni Robredo acknowledged that Filipino-American businesswoman and philanthropist Loida Nicolas Lewis supported her political career from the time she ran for Congress in 2013 and she said it has been a long-time since she talked and met with her.
“After the elections, noong ako po ay nanalo na, hindi ko po maalala kung nagkaroon ng pagkakataon na nag-meet kami. Sinasabi pong nag-meet daw kami sa Amerika, hindi po iyon totoo,” said Robredo.
She added “Ni personal meeting, ni tawag sa telepono hindi po kami nagtawagan o nag-meet sa Amerika. Kaya yung kumakalat na balita hindi po iyon totoo."
However, in an article published on Journal Global Links website, the vice president was a guest of honor at the conference of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) in Philadelphia last August 2016 where Lewis was also a speaker.
"The lineup of speakers for the 3-day conference includes Filipino American performer Allan Pineda Lindo, more popularly known as apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas; Wei-Tai Kwok of the Climate Reality Project; Industrialist and Philanthropist Loida Nicolas Lewis; Multimedia Journalist Rose Tibayan; and Musician Michael Dadap," according to the article.

Well-known political analyst and De La Salle Professor slams Robredo on her pronouncements.
This is what the vice president said:
"She [was]one of my supporters when I ran for Congress because she is also from Bicol. I have talked to her way back, I think even before the [vice presidential]campaign started. But since I won [as Vice President], we haven’t seen or talked to each other. It is not true that we met in the US."
He added, "It is hard to believe that the two would have not even talked over the phone, more so in person." Likewise, a video from FlippinFlips.org confirms the arrival of Leni Robredo in that event.
