VM Paolo Duterte reacts to CHR comments vs President's war on drugs

"The victims of Martial Law and those who were killed during police operations against drug personalities do not bare any comparison—not even in numbers. Being compared to the people whose lives were wasted on the evils of illegal drugs was an insult to those who died because of their political ideology," said the Presidential son and Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte.

He denounced the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chair Chito Gascon's comparison on the number of victims of Martial Law to the casualties in the first few months of President Duterte’s administration.

"Ang naitala sa unang mga taon ng diktadurya (Marcos regime) ng mga napatay ay hindi umabot ng limang libo sa mga unang taon ng diktadurya. Ito po limang buwan pa lamang may limang libo na ang napatay," Gascon said.

The CHR chair expressed alarm at the number drug-related casualties as it breaching the 5,000 mark.

Per the Presidential son, it can only be surmised that Gascon's recklessness and insensitivity emanate from the efforts to attack and undermine President Duterte and his agenda to rid the country of illegal drugs, solve the peace and order problem, and end corruption in government.

President Duterte has repeatedly said that his administration’s directive is for policemen to shoot armed drug suspects only in defense of their lives.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) data shows that as of Nov. 25 that 1,959 have been killed in anti-drug operations.
