“You know there’s so many things important in our country but the reality is may favorite topic ang media, di ba?”
    Cayetano told reporters.

“I’ve seen the latest surveys. A lot of people care about the issue but they care more about presyo, trabaho, kita at kaayusan, public order.. It is not my job right now to keep voicing out my opinions sa kalye,” he added.

On May 2016 election, Alan Peter Cayetano run as President Duterte's running mate for the vice-presidency but has been defeated by Leni Robredo. Per the Senator, he is more focused on helping President Rodrigo Duterte fulfill their campaign promises.

My job is to be ready when the President asks me to do something or my advice, he knows my stand. Alam niya stand nung mga Cabinet members so if we are part of the administration and we tell it to him in the context of debate, then walang problema.. But if we tell him that to disagree, lalabas tayo at magsasalita tayo, you have to determine whether you want to be part of the team or not.. Ang goal ko ngayon is yung aming campaign promises ay matupad and to help the President in any way I can. That doesn’t mean na lahat ng gawin niya ay sasang-ayon ako,But if we tell him that to disagree, lalabas tayo at magsasalita tayo, you have to determine whether you want to be part of the team or not," said Cayetano.
