President Rodrigo Duterte said on his recent State of the Nation Address that he is announcing a unilateral ceasefire with the CPP-NPA-NDF effective immediately and call on Filipinos in the National Democratic Front and its forces to respond accordingly.
However, due to the ambush in Davao del Norte last July 28, where a reserve military force was killed and four got wounded, the President threatened to revoke the unilateral ceasefire he has declared. He then demanded for an explanation from the rebels who passed the blame on the military troops.
On Saturday, with decisiveness, President Duterte has lifted the unilateral ceasefire and placed military troops on high alert after the CPP-NPA-NDF failed his 5PM ultimatum to make their own declaration of truce.
“Let me now announce that I am hereby ordering for the immediate lifting of the unilateral ceasefire that I ordered last July 25 against the communist rebels. I am ordering all security forces to be on high alert and continue to discharge their normal functions and mandate to neutralize all threats to national security, protect the citizenry enforce the laws and maintain peace and in the land” – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte
